HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE BUSINESS
 
Major milestones in the Company's growth and development include the following:

2007
  • In December 2007, Vitran purchased a retail supply chain management specialist Las Vegas/L.A. Express, Inc. based in Ontario, CA with three facilities in California, one in Nevada, one in Arizona, and one in New Mexico.

2006
  • Acquisition of Sierra West Express, Inc., a regional LTL freight carrier based in Reno, Nevada, with operations in the Western U.S.
  • In October 2006, Vitran acquired PJAX Freight System, headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA, extending its geographic footprint to New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia.

 

2005
  • Acquisition of Chris Truck Line, a regional LTL freight carrier based in Wichita, Kansas, with operations in the Midwestern and Southwestern U.S.
  • Vitran is listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the symbol “VTNC”. The AMEX listing is voluntarily delisted. Vitran continues to be traded on the TSX under the symbol “VTN”.

 

2004
  • Vitran is one of the first Canadian companies to receive an unqualified audit opinion for its Sarbanes-Oxley 404 Certification.

 

2003
  • Equity financing of US $31.6 million.

 

2001
  • Sale of ETL Environmental Technology Ltd. in order to focus on transportation

2000
  • Vitran lists on the American Stock Exchange under the symbol “VVN”.

 

1999
  • Combined Overland Transportation and Quast Transfer to form Vitran Express

1998
  • Acquisition of Quast Transfer Inc., a Minnesota based regional LTL carrier.

1995
  • Acquisition of Overland Transportation System Inc., an Indiana-based Midwestern and Southeastern regional U.S. LTL carrier.
  • Equity financing of $11.4 million.

1993
  • Acquisition of The Freight Connection Inc., a Florida-based intermodal marketing company listed on the U.S. Over-the-Counter market under the symbol "FTCN"

1992
  • Equity financing of $6.0 million.

1991
  • Sale of All-Way Transportation Corporation for $37.0 million and a special distribution of $4.74 per share.
  • Acquisition of Imperial Roadways Limited. Purchased a book of business and some equipment that provided synergies for Trans Western Express.
  • Acquisition of ETL Environmental Technology Ltd., a western Canadian recycler of non-hazardous dry waste.
  • Acquisition of Warehouser Storage & Distribution Services Inc., a logistics, cartage and container provider.

1989
  • Acquisition of Trans Western Express Inc., an LTL company serving all of Canada except the Atlantic provinces.

1987
  • Initial public offering raised $11 million. Shares currently trade under the symbol "VTN.A" on the TSE and "VVN" on the American Stock Exchange.

1983
  • Company established.
  • Acquisition of All-Way Transportation, a company providing school busing services.
  • Acquisition of four small busing companies to build market share and geographic coverage.
  • Acquisition of G&W Freightways Ltd., a Canadian regional LTL company operating principally in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario.
