Summary:
                                               
Truck dispatchers are responsible for coordinating the movements of trucks that are entering terminals. Dispatchers communicate with truck drivers through computers, phones or two-way radios, and will assign drivers to trucks and make sure they leave and arrive on schedule. Truck dispatchers are available at all times to answer any questions from drivers, help them avoid traffic jams and keep them aware of inclement weather ahead.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Dispatch company drivers and owner/operators
  • Schedule loads based on safety, customer service, and load efficiency from the customer information received
  • Ensuring optimal truck utilization
  • Provide customers with professional and timely support on a variety of issues
  • Create, communicate, schedule, and maintain the driver/delivery schedules
  • Communicate dispatch to drivers
  • Confirm loads have been delivered
  • Record all incidents to management
  • Recording customer orders, messages and requests, then forwarding these to appropriate areas
  • Recording of deliveries in the format as required by the customer
  • Ensure drivers are performing responsibilities in a safe, reliable and professional manner
  • Report in compliance with customer specifications

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of transportation with various intermodal knowledge: Less Than Truckload and Full Load, via road and rail is preferred
  • Customer service and data entry experience is required
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Access is required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Well organized and strong attention to detail is required
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and be flexible to changing priorities
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Bi-lingual and multi-lingualism shall be viewed as an asset
  • Willingness to assist others and go the extra mile

Education/Training:           

  • College degree in business, Transportation, Logistics or related field or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired is necessary.  

Minimum Job Requirements:  

  • Minimum of 3 years of transportation modes knowledge: Full Load, Less Than Truckload via road and rail/intermodal is preferred
